The Aquanauts

High Command, Pod Leaders, Aquanauts and Swimmers make up the Red School which is looking to claim treasure and territory against the Gold School in the crystalline, beautiful and dangerous underwater world of the Aquanauts. A fiercely competitive battle erupts and soon, inside of each school, miscommunication and confusion between the High Command and Pod Leaders leave the Aquanauts and Swimmers gasping for air. Trust evaporates. Confusion reigns. The front line becomes isolated and is left underwater without enough information or air. High Command sits high and dry in their land-based office and the Pod Leaders get stretched into madness in the middle. Neither School will be able to claim victory over the other unless they first are able to understand and operate effectively within their own systems.

Each participant in each school is assigned to a key leadership role as a member of High Command, a Pod Leader, an Aquanaut or a Front Line Swimmer. The mission revolves around going 'head to head' with the other School in order to gain control of the Aquanaut's Universe.

Aquanauts visit various stations within the universe, as directed by their School's strategy, in order to access air bubbles and rewards before their counterparts can lay claim over the same territory and treasure. They must be wary of the Mutant Squalus, Hydravirus and Lurking Chimera that may be swimming past them along the way. Pod Leaders direct and monitor the activities of the Aquanauts who control the actions of the front line Swimmers. High Command sits on land, elevated and dry above the water line. They set the strategy and allocate resources. It is through the chain of command that their edicts become operational under the churning sea. What happens when information doesn't flow the way the organization chart said it would? Why are resources going to poor or average Swimmers when the best and most capable are left gasping for air? Where has the trust gone from within the system? What happens when the lowly Swimmers discover new and strategically important information? Does the strategy change? Can the entire School switch mid-stream and accommodate new findings?

This powerful simulation experience leaves participants more than ready to plunge into significant discussions on how systems work and affect their performance; and how they can move themselves and their organizations forward. Participants immersed in The Aquanauts have said that many days, weeks, and even months later, they were still uncovering insights that make a significant difference to them back on the job.
